A meeting is being planned for Abe Forum members on the first day of the cruise - before sailing! How exciting is this???
We will meet in the Crow's Nest - Deck 10, Port side of the ship (that's the left side as you face front of ship), in the "side room" - you'll see that when you get off the elevator and walk toward the Crow's nest on the port side. |I'm not sure if they will be serving drinks at that time, but if not we'll all just be drunk on our friendship. I was given the important information that the lifeboat drill will take place at 3:15 - not 4 as I previously thought! So we have to move up the hour of our meet-up to 2:00, and encourage everyone to embark early!!
Deck 10 is accessible only from the elevators (or stairs) all the way in front of the ship. The best way to access (IMHO) is to go to the Lido Deck (deck 9 - any elevator will take you there) and then walk all the way to the front of the ship, past the Lido pool, through the spa area, to the stairs going up to deck 10.
We'll set the gathering for 2 PM - David and I will try to get there by 1:45. I'll try to organize at least some pitchers of water, or maybe soda, if there is not service yet at that time. I will PM everybody with this info as well, just in case they miss this thread, and if anyone has not yet chimed in that they are going to Alaska, please PM me and I'll add you to the list. I'm making up name tags so we can immediately recognize one another by name/userid. I'd like to include "from" as well, so if you can PM me with that info it would be great. In everybody's PM I'll also include David's cell phone number to use in case you find yourself wandering the ship unable to fly up to the Crow's Nest!
Have I missed anything? I'll leave this thread open for discussion, and I'm making it a "sticky" until sailing, so let's prepave the exciting time we're going to have! YAY!!

O.K., here's a dumb question....
Is there food somewhere when you get on the ship the first day? I'm trying to figure out whether I need to get lunch before boarding or whether I can come a bit earlier and make sure I'm all set and then eat lunch on board...... TU

EXCELLENT QUESTION BEC:
And here is the excellent answer!!
YES, there is food on board when you get on, and every second after that until you disembark. Plentifully and often - that's cruise eating!!!
Specifically to your question:
When you embark, you will most likely NOT be able to access your stateroom. (unless you embark after 12:30 - not recommended... read on) You will be told to go up to the LIDO (deck 9) to enjoy a very large lunch buffet!! You munch and take in the Seattle skyline until staterooms are pronounced ready. By no later than 1 PM you should be able to go to your stateroom, so you'll have plenty of time to do that before our meet-up. If you want to eat lunch first, I recommend embarking as EARLY as possible - the LIDO will be crowded since it's the only place "open" on the ship at that time so "everybody" will be there - noon is the worst.
If you are in stateroom categories: SC, SB, or SA or Penthouse, you can instead proceed to the Neptune lounge on Deck 7 where there is a private snack buffet for the people in the suites, and you avoid the mob scene on the Lido.
One other thing: When you check your luggage at embarkation, it is delivered to your stateroom SOMETIME THAT DAY, NOT NECESSARILY BEFORE SAILING.
So keep in mind that you MIGHT NOT be able to change for dinner...
First night is the only night jeans are allowed in the dining room for that very reason.
That said, I've never had this happen to me - have always had my suitcase bright and early after my stateroom was ready, but I know that it does happen - they have 1800 suitcases to distribute so it takes time. I assume the earlier you board the earilier your luggage will arrive in your stateroom - I always embark early which might explain my luck with this. (I also pre-pave and EXPECT perfect service!)
One more thing - your "carry-on" stuff (whatever you don't check at embarkation to be delivered to your stateroom) will be with you until your cabin is ready, so I try to embark only with my computer and purse (and if you don't have a computer you are even better off!!) I see people with small suitcases and other "carry-on" bags having a heck of a time up in the Lido trying to get lunch and watch their stuff... you get the idea...
So yes, food is ALWAYS there for you - and good food - IMHO!!!
Keep the questions coming! It's fun discussing all this - it keeps us focused on how FUN this will be!!

Why, thank you, Jody.
And thanks for your excellent answer!TU TU
Ah, well, for this Cruise I remain Neptune Lounge-less, but I will be happily jumping in with both feet (and hands) into the mobbed Lido deck buffet!
Thnx again for all the great info!

Hmmmm. I don't think you'll be able to leave your bags, but that would be a question for the experts at Worldview Travel.

I was just thinking about the list of almost 40 that we had going from the other forum and how not everyone has found there way to this new and improved forum yet.
There are a couple of faces that I will probably recognize (Maritza, Lawcayce) and although our very exclusive (just kidding Jody ) meetup in the crows nest won't be available to them, I'm sure our small group will be congregating at other times throughout the cruise and we can add any new or old friends as we go.
Now I'll try the not so wordy version of that.
Hey you guys! Remember to keep your eyes open for our former forum Alaska Cruise members that haven't shown up here yet! that was easy.

And LOA will take care of everything... have no fear!

That's great. TU I hadn't gotten any emails about this part of the Forum in quite a while, so thanks for the update! I arrive around 9:45AM, and the Worldview Travel folks said that I could go to the International terminal to pick up the shuttle to the ship, or something like that. Those don't start until 10:30, so if I make the first one, I should be there by 11, right? I was planning on keeping my laptop in my large pillow bag (I am bringing my own!!) . I still have to find out how many carry-ons I have. But, I don't think my laptop will fit in my backpack, at least the one I have been planning to bring. I may have to revise my carry-ons based on what you said. But, if not, I'll just have to keep an eye on my stuff, I guess...
I don't have an assigned state room yet. The deal I bought was that I'd get at least the level I bought, or better. But, they haven't assigned me yet. I am just trusting that I'll get a nice, quiet room where I am very comfortable! Do you know if the ship has things like shampoo, conditioner, and such? I want to minimize what I have to bring. I know they have hair dryers, something they sent confirmed that. Is there anything that you would normally find in a hotel that they don't supply? Thanks for your assistance with all this!
Oh, another question. One thing I absolutely love to do (and got to some of this weekend) is to sing. Are there any sing-alongs or group jams that happen on board?

Sondra, have you done the online check-in yet? It's quite possible that by now your stateroom has been assigned!! When you checkin online you will see your assignment. We also had a "guarantee" and were pleasantly surprised that we did get an upgrade in our assignment. I hope you will too, but wherever you are you will love your cabin - it's ALL GOOD!!!
Funny you should mention singing - on my last three cruises they had singing contests run like take-offs on American Idol with the cruise entertainment staff judging. It was so much fun and some of the guests who participated had great talent! I don't know if they'll do this on the Noordam, but they did on all her sister ships!
As for amenities - as you said - what you might expect in any upscale hotel room. Robes, shampoo etc, hair drying.. can't think of what else right now, but if you have specific questions maybe they will jog my memory. I'm thinking I don't remember conditioner... anybody else?
And yes, your flight is arriving in plenty of time for you to make our 2 PM meeting. In fact, with the lifeboat drill taking place at 3:15, everybody should be onboard by then...
