Now, Ahem, Rick, you DID read that part of the guidelines that specifically states that anyone that embarrasses the Super DUPER Moderator must buy her a Grapefruit Cosmo in the Ocean Bar after dinner.... right???

I approve memberships for all the orange county freecycle groups and I have no one to process the peeeps but me. So I do have to do it. I think it is better it is outside the room. Perhaps we can geek together lol Do you have any idea how much the budget should be for wifi coverage?
Also... do you know if there is much verizon cell coverage? Or should I buy a disposable phone?
thanks......

As far as the "budget" on Wifi, open your credit card up and let the prosperity flow outwardly!
The basic time charge is $.75 per minute, or you can purchase a discounted time plan of 100 minutes for $55.00 or 250 minutes for $100.00. Laptops may be rented for $20 per day. They have offered a special on all 6 of the cruises I have been on where you get some bonus minutes (like 10 on the 100 and 20 on the 250 as I recall), if you buy it on the first day. These rates have stayed the same on every cruise I have been on since 2004, but they may have changed. I think you could plan on it, though.
NOTE! Internet is claimed to be broadband, and it may be called that, but it is really slow. It's about the speed of dialup, maybe a touch faster. If you use the ship's desktop computers you cannot read or compose off line, so it's best to bring your laptop if you are a serious internet addict like Jody and me.
As far as "geeking together", as you put it, I actually know a fellow geekster that brought on a wireless router and actually set up two laptops on a network on the same internet account. I am sure they frown on this practice, and I would not do it.
ALSO! Be SURE you are logged out. Closing your browser does not do the trick. It's best to have the log out URL in your bookmarks so you can log out as efficiently as possible. Sometimes finding the popup window with the log out button is as not quick to find. The log out URL on all the cruises I have been on is http://1.1.1.1 They make this information available when you are there. I would imagine the Noordam is like the other dam ships in that you can get wireless also in the midship areas (the rotunda) on decks 3, 4 and 5. That's a quieter spot to hang and do mail than the internet room with all the people traffic.
As far as cell service, in port you will generally get all services. (that has been my experience with Sprint. Verizon may well be better than that, actually). I cannot imagine a disposable phone would work better than your Verizon phone. You can see coverage, what there is of it in Alaska, on your cellphone's website.

oh i was not talking about sharing the connection, that would not be right. I just meant, you know hang out while geeking lol
Thanks for the information. I'm bringing my PC since it is an extension of my brain. I can compose anything I need to do before hand and just upload as needed....
It may be a royal PITA to do the work i am needing to do if the connection is that slow! yeiks! (processing memberships in a yahoo group). hummmmm.
yeiks! again.

| I have done Yahoogroups on the ship's internet. Very costly. This is where it pays to have friends at home to help out. Oh, yeah!

David, bless you!!! This inquiring mind has been wanting to know about the internet charges and couldn't find anything specific on any other cruise boards or the Holland-America site. Thanks again!

Hi Everybody!
I'm back, and I'll start another thread with my notes, etc. soon, but meanwhile, I'm pasting David's post from another thread here, just to make sure nobody who was at the Forum Meet-up on the Noordam misses the pictures! What a great meeting it was, and what a great cruise that followed!
Here is what David posted: (THANK YOU David! )
____
There is a small webpage for the first bunch of pictures I will be uploading at
http://whatanicewebsite.com/AK2007-Meetup/
And a nice high res. image of the entire group at
http://whatanicewebsite.com/faces/P7080033a.jpg
I have TONS more pictures, actually into the thousands to sort through with a CD that I got in the mail from Sondra, (thank you, Sondra) along with one coming from Linda (Vmatch). There will be the best of the best coming, so stay tuned!

I want to thank Jody for putting forth the LOVE

and ENERGY to keep the ball going on this and make it happen for us all. There was a GREAT feeling of family the whole time, and that is in large part due to Jody's Love of us that way. Thank you to EVERYBODY that made it one amazing time that just wants to be done again and again.
Thank you SO MUCH for the LOVE!
DAVID

Abraham, Esther, Jerry and all the people I was lucky enough to meet really made it wonderful. Thanks for the pictures and all you do here! Laura

Yes, Jody, welcome back, and DO tell us about the second week on the Noordham. How was it different without all of us? Did you just rest?::dreaming
Sondra
PS No, I hadn't seen David's other post. Wonder why? I'm supposedly connected to that other thread...I'd better go check it whenever there's a chance...Not this week, though. My sister from Florida is arriving Saturday with her brood! Thanks for the acknowledgement, David! I guess that means my package has arrived! Sorry that took so long. I did get a cold that slowed me down for a few days. I'm much better now. Didn't last long, thank goodness!

Hi Laura and Sondra!
The second cruise was much more low key for me - after David and all of you left the ship I was immensely grateful that Linda(VMatch) (and my dear Worldview Travel friends) were still there - I felt almost bereft and abandoned after the intensity and the whirlwind of activity with so many people we knew that took place on the Abe cruise! The energy on the ship was noticably different with the departure of 500+ Abers - no question about that! However, on the second cruise I attended the workshops of another spiritual author (details by PM if anyone is interested as it's off-topic here) and that experience was significant in its own way, while being very very different from the Abraham workshop experience. Alaska was certainly just as beautiful, although no, the Marjorie was low-key as I was! She did not calve significantly while the Noordam was visiting.
I keep promising "more soon" and I'll repeat that here... jetlag definitely has hold of me now, and my desk is "piled high and deeper".... but I WILL have a lot to say about the Abe cruise, however belated!
Love,
Jody

Hi Jody and everyone,
Having made the trip to Israel from the East coast I can sure understand the adjustment that is needed not only for all the 10 to 11 times zones Jody traveled in just one leg of it, but the movement into life as it was from ship life. The way life is on a ship you can get used to right away with no problem at all!
Holland America's luxury and the beauty and feeling of family in JOY together is so easy to get used to as the norm, not only for the amazing, non-stop beauty surrounding you outside, the food that is to die for and service all around that makes you feel like royalty, but mainly for the glorious and special feeling of family in Joy as expressed with the Abraham kin folks all around you.
It is easy to see that the endorphins created under such conditions create a state that is so much wanted again that cruisers keep doing it year after year, and coming from so very far away like you, Jody. Even for those that are very prosperous, the cost is significant for these things, bottom line, but the drive to have this feeling is far more significant. Cost means nothing compared to the life force and desire invovled with an Abraham-Hicks Well Being Cruise.
This was my 7th Abraham cruise since 2004. And somehow I don't think there's going to be a way for me not to go again to the next one to Alaska. That is one special cruise!! My fourth cruise there is begging for a fifth. OMG. What a
Thank you again to the family of us that gathered. I truly Love you all!!!

Hello Abe Cruisers and all:
There is nothing more exhilarating than an Abe cruise to Alaska. Each time gets more fun and more joyous. I really enjoyed meeting and playing with all of you on the Noordam. It was our Abe City for a week. I told David that this was the most photographed cruise I had been on so stay tuned for some great visuals.
Jody and I stayed on for the next cruise. Though the excitement of the Abe cruise was diminshed, your vibrations met us every where we went on the ship. We half expected to see you all at every turn. Those of you who got rained on in Juneau, the next week was mostly sunny and almost 70 degrees!
We came for the ride on the river, and we're eager for more.

Here they are, finally! The pictures I took on the 2007 Alaska cruise are at
http://whatanicewebsite.com/AlaskaCruise-2007/
Enjoy the good times again! There's 182 thumbnails to load so even with high speed internet, it will take at least a minute or so for the page to load.
