Oh my. No, I don't want to compete. I don't have an American Idol-type of voice at all.  Mine is more folksy and sweet-sounding.  I just want to do a sing-along and harmonize - co-creating with others, if you will.  Very different from a competition where people are judged.  I'd watch a competition, but I wouldn't participate. That would be very upstream for me!  I am a storyteller and was a theatre major, so I perform, ::frogbut in a very different stream than what you describe.

As far as my room goes, I checked with Worldview last week and they said my room still hadn't been assigned and they would tell me when it was. I will check online now, though and see if something has changed. Thanks!

Nope, I checked online (didn't check in), it still says GUAR by stateroom, so apparently, I don't have a room yet. I wonder how close to the edge they wait? I'm a single, so perhaps they're waiting because of that. They have to give me a room, don't they? Or perhaps I'll just sleep on deck? Or they'll put me in someone else's room? Any cute single guys want a roommate?::yeah

Sondra... Yup, they have to give you a room! ::LOL

Still, if you do the online checkin you might be surprised... I know I was even though I was told I didn't have an assignment yet!

I did check last night, and I still didn't have a room. I think I'll give it a few days more and look again, but thanks!

Holy cow Law! That was close. I thought you'd changed your mind. I secretly put myself in charge of all the cabins and suites on the cruise and

I was this ::wide  close to giving your away!  Whew!

But seriously, glad to have you present and accounted for  ::handwaving

Hello Rick!

Bless Jody for finding me on line in another Abe Group I joined in Austin.  I had just been talking on Father's Day about how we had lost the previous forum and I really wanted to get re-connected. It took me a few days to log on to my email, but there was Jody's message!

So did you sign up for a zipline excursion?  I did - the 9:30 one (I think), or whatever the latest one was at.  We have ziplining about 30 miles from my house, so may need to run over and get the experience under my belt so I don't scream bad words!!

See you on ship,

(Gesundheit Jody)

Law, In Ketchikan I am doing the rain forest sanctuary walk. This sounds like a different flavor of photo ops for me and that's why I chose it over the zip line adventure. We'll see how it goes and perhaps I'll do the zip line next year. We just might end up at the same location, you'll just be in the tree tops. Be sure and ::wave

Here's a pic from the floatplane on the way out to Taku Glacier Lodge last year in Juneau. It is either east or west twin glacier.

Hey now! Let's not get crazy Tom! ::whacky  It will certainly be great to cruise with you again but the Santa suit will still be at the cleaners. Due to an old softball injury I will be standing the whole time anyway.

Jody, on the name tags, how bout if instead of TomStretches we put .......... (drum roll icon please) ......... "TomWaitsTillTheLastMinute"     ::LOL   wow, i'm good.

He would have tried to crash the party anyway, you know?

Here's a view of the pool area with the roof open on the Westerdam before departing Seattle last year.

New topic...Clothes! :dancer:

Jody, What is appropriate attire for the workshop times? Since I don't want to bring my entire summer wardrobe, and I do want to relax (the whole formal dinner thing is a trip, but I do have the clothes!), I'd like to be able to have double-triple duty for my clothing.  What do you, as another woman, suggest, for balance of formal, "nice dress/pantsuit," casual clothing for a week ( I know you're doing two!) on the ship?  My side trips, I want to be able to layer and be comfortable.  So far, I'm just doing the floatplane out of Juneau, and the boat trip through the Misty Fjords, out of Ketchikan. Of course, there could be more! I just don't want to run out of space for my clothing layers for those and other excursions. I want room for my hiking boots, as well as other shoes, as well! Thanks! ::TU

Hi Sondra!

So funny, but of course there are no "coincidences" - I was just listening to a CD of Abraham today and they were talking about PACKING and how it is a chore, and how to make it into a positive.. anyway, it was interesting and very apropos!

So about your questions... the workshops are super casual.  I usually wear jeans and a tee shirt with a sweater in case it's "over air conditioned" in the Vista lounge.  I wear sneakers - I don't bring sandals to Alaska - even though it's a summer cruise it feels more like fall or even winter to me...

For your shore excursions jeans and sneakers and layers for any weather will be perfect -
Also, there is laundry service on the ship if you really get into a pinch, so don't worry to much about perfect packing.

For the two formal nights, last year I brought one long black skirt and two different sort of fancy tops - this year I'm bringing two complete outfits, same shoes for each.  On the night of the cocktail part with J&E, unless it's formal night, I'll have an additional dress packed.  The rest of the nights in the dining room I'll wear nice pants - I don't wear jeans to the dining room, but they are okay in the Lido.

It is true that you need a lot of stuff for a one week cruise.  The variety of weather and activities does demand sort of heavy packing... sigh... as Abe says, try to make it a game and get someone really heavy to close your suitcase!!

I hope this helped a little!

Thanks. I think I already overpacked! So, I'll sort through. I like to start early, as there are always last minute things I didn't think about, it seems...jeans, huh? Is it really that cool on the ship? Is it warm enough to go to the pool?  It's so hot in Denver right now that it's hard to conceive of it being cold again (well, not really, just a few weeks ago, we were complaining here, wondering if summer would ever come!)
