bec333: I've only used the Internet room once back in 2004. As I remember there was a set up fee and then you could buy packages of time. Obviously, the more minutes, the less the cost.  There might be  more current information in your travel packet. I'm sure somebody at HollandAmerica could answer your questions either online or by phone.

I'm like Jody1; I love to talk about cruising, and though I am still a novice, I'm happy to share from my experiences. ::nod

Also, look for the signs posted on the Promenade deck for how many laps equal a mile (it's in metrics too).

About the big suitcases.

It use to be only overseas flights that were weight strict, but on my last NY to Calf. trip a few months back my extra pounds (anythin over 50) cost me $50.00!

And it wasn't even over packed! So my big suit case is just to big, 'cause 50 pounds rattle around it it (hmmm, I could fill it with ballons to keep stuff in place . . .)

Peg, attracting two medium sized suitcases!

Alaska on a sunny summer day is delightful and warm. It's just when the sun goes behind those clouds that it can be chilly. Cruising by those glaciers is refreshingly cool and the night temperature when the ship is full out at 22-23 knots is the best air-conditioning if you're out on deck. You'll love the contrast!  Glad I could be helpful to inquiring minds. I'll be looking for you onboard.::wave

You are welcome Bec! ::hearts::hearts::hearts

The check in woman had me pulling stuff out, tieing sweaters over my shoulders and pulling on another set of pants to get under that pesky 50 pounds, but even all layered up I was 2 pounds over, so there I was, poofy woman, stripping it all off and shoving it back in my formally orginized suitcase as I handed over the extra money!

Oh, and do bring those zip locks! Some security points have them to offer and some don't. I was a vibrational match to losing my favorite chap stick bought when shopping with my darling daughter in The Netherlands, and my mascara, and, and, and all for the love of a zip lock. And it was all items that had made it through many previous checks as I had traveled around.

Peg, lessons learned!

Wow. Didn't know about this thread, was asking on another.  I think I'm overstuffed!  Even though there are two formal nights and a cocktail party, do we really only need one formal dress? Or, is two better and re-wear one? I have Chico's travel wear in mix 'n match black pants and dress, with different Chicos blouses. Is this too much for evening? It's very packable and light, so it seemed like a good choice. I bought it for a trip to S. Africa 3 years ago.  Good to know it's casual during workshops, though I still might wear some of that Chicos stuff for those, too, if you don't think I'll be overdressed.  I'll be the one in black most of the time! My cat is helping me pack, so I'll also be the one with cat hair on everything!  Really? No sandals or shorts? Not even my Tevas for going to the pool? Is it too cold for the pool, too?

Sondra,

First of all, when you pack, tell the Universe that you are certain you are being led to pack exactly what you will want and need. :exactly:

And so you will

So... I always bring two formal outfits  plus another something pretty dressy to wear for the cocktail party.  The cocktail party is NOT formal - and not everyone even dresses in evening wear for that.  If it happens to fall on formal night - then you are all set.  If it doesn't, I usually just wear a nice outfit to the party and continue to dinner in that.
Your Chicos outfits sound great.  I love Chicos stuff - and you can dress it up or down with accessories, shoes, jewelry.

The big pool will be covered - so you can certainly go swimming even if it's cold outside! The aft pool stays open, but many people do use it - and the jaccuzis are right there to warm up in!

I have a feeling that with your cat helping you pack it's all going to be downstream - your cat is not about to stress out about this stuff! ::LOL

Keep asking if you have more questions!
::grapevine
Jody
P.S. Do you mean you and your cat have ALREADY started the packing! Yikes, you are organized! ::cool ::hugging

Oh, no. Not really organized. I think I have 3 different lists going, and I don't know where two of them are!  But, I did bring out the suitcase today, and got my formalwear and the Chicos stuff in a bag.  I'm guessing that what I've already packed will do for anything formal or dinnerish, or even on land if I'm just sightseeing.  Now comes the interesting part - pants for workshops and daytime wear.  You're in Israel, so I'm wondering if the stark change between your weather and Alaska is why you don't pack shorts, etc. I'm used to Denver weather, and 70 degrees is great for shorts and sleeveless tops for me! I wear layers in the winter here, and almost always have a sleeveless tank on.  I run hot, especially in the past few months. So, I'm going to bring stuff like that just because I'm feeling I'll need it. I've asked a few times with no answers about whether to bring shorts (you're the only one who responded!), so I'm wondering if everyone else just does what you say, Jody?  If so, I'm impressed with your leadership already! ::shuffle

"leadership"?  What a hoot. You are too kind Sondra... well, I do talk a lot! As far as "everyone" doing what I say... hmmm.... Rick? Are you packing your formal wear according to my instructions????

::LOL

There are many better leaders than me - I've been on three cruises and that's not even a lot compared to ... pipe up people!

Hello Sondra;

I live in Florida and it is very hot, so I am used to wear light clothing, so I am going to bring some light clothing and a pair of sandals and of course some sweaters and clothing that can be layer. About your shorts, my husband is taking  his shorts in case there are warm days, so you wont be the only one wearing shorts ::thumb

See you soon

:kiss: Kalena
