Each time I go on the Alaska cruise, I check out the wildlife in the gift shop and bring a little furry creature home. I'm being called Goldilocks with the three bears (cruise1, cruise 2, cruise 3). I do love the polar bears!

Tina, I was there too in '04 and it was magnificent to see Abe's Pinnacle.

From my archives the "before" picture of Abe's Pinnacle 2004 taken with my first digital camera. I did snap a shot as it fell, but  David's video captured it better. You can see what a huge hunk of ice it was and how spectacular the fall.

Hi Everyone,

For those of us who have never been before, does this happen at every Alaskan cruise?  Caused by Abraham?

Way cool!

... in 2005 I remember looking foward to "glacier day" with
such anticipation, but I also had this little "what if it's not as good as last year's pinnacle experience" vibration going...
But it was AWESOME.... the glacier actually calves quite a bit in the summer, and we saw huge pieces of the "wall" of the glacier detach and fall - one big calving even "rocked" the Oosterdam - it was incredible.  Each time a huge amount of ice cascaded into the water a cheer went up from the bow and the Abers were yelling "More please!"
The day we were there in 2006 there was slightly less calving, but it was still awesome and incredible.  There is something about the energy of miles of compressed ice... I don't know... it's like nothing else I've ever experienced.

Hi journeyrose and future cruisers:

The Hubbard Glacier is massive and the ship cannot get too close because of all the ice floating in the water. There is activity going on all the time and you just have to scan and watch. The glacier makes a sound called white lightening which indicates the cracking and splitting of the ice (calving) and then the dramatic cascade into the water. Sometimes these look small from where we are viewing, but as Jody noted, Abe rocked our boat with a big one in 2005.

Here's a shot from 2006:

Hello;

This is my first cruise with Abe :windsurfer: and my first seminar as well. Anyone can tell me what time the seminar starts and how many days and hours would be and also I would like to know if there is a roll call.

B, you are cracking me up! What will you WEAR!???? That is the age-old cruise question - Abe or no Abe orientation!!! ::devil::devil::devil::devil

Yes, the first day we all gather in the Vista lounge and Jerry makes his announcements and then introduces Esther and she does bring in Abraham for a few minutes to start the whole thing rolling.  The energy is HIGH and the happiness is off the chart.  Just thinking about it is giving me goose-bumps!!  Can't wait!

As for what to wear... LOL - that's another thread!@!@!@!@

Well, this is a question asked in many circles these days ::snuggle, and I just happen to have the answer.  From Yahoo news of April 27:

GUWEI'IYYA, Saudi Arabia (Reuters) - The legs are long, the eyes are big, the bodies curvaceous. This week, the Qahtani tribe of western Saudi Arabia has been welcoming entrants to its Mazayen al-Ibl competition, a parade of the "most beautiful camels" in the desolate desert region of Guwei'iyya, 120 km (75 miles) west of Riyadh....

"Beautiful, beautiful!" the judge mutters quietly to himself, inspecting the group. Finalists have been decorated with silver bands and body covers.

"The nose should be long and droop down, that's more beautiful," explains Sultan al-Qahtani, one of the organizers. "The ears should stand back, and the neck should be long. The hump should be high, but slightly to the back...."

I have the big eyes and the curvaceous body, but sadly I am lacking in the long leg department.  The jury is still out on the long, drooping nose and the high hump.  Nevertheless, you will be able to recognize me at the Abraham-Hicks Alaska Cruise Orientation (see, I am TOTALLY on topic), by my silver bands and body cover....... ::wave
