Hi Vicki and Bonnie!

I saw you both at the other site, but didn't get a chance to talk to you, it's nice to see you here as well!

Hi Susan & Liz,

We are on CruiseCritic often, as we try to do at least one cruise (or two) a year and it's a great way to connect with people.::nod
This is our first Abe cruise and we're really excited. Our biggest news is that we changed cabins to accommodate a third person! A friend of ours really wanted to go on this cruise (and do the Abraham seminar), but she didn't have anyone to sail with. Even though the TA was offering to match up singles, she really couldn't afford the whole package.
It was significantly cheaper for her to share a room with us, so we talked to Lois at Life Journeys and she made it happen for us.
We'll be a bit cramped with three of us in one room, but I know we'll have a great time  and we'll meet lots of terrific people.
So there were two of us and now there are three! Our friends name is Patsy and she's a lot of fun.
I'm not crazy about some of HAL's policies (charging excursions immediately instead of after they happen and putting a hold on credit cards of $60.00 per day for the prior to the cruise), but we'll deal with those annoying situations.
All is well.
See you on board!

Hi Vicki and Bonnie! Very cool about your friend! Woo hoo! The more the merrier.

Aren't you glad we are Abers and we know the money thingies always work out in our best interest?  I LOVE that!

(By the way the hold on your credit card only happens when you embark - and if you want a different arrangement that's possible by going to the front desk  - or possibly when you check in at the pier :)) :allgood

I'm thinking of adding one of the salmon bake excursions.  Haven't done those yet in all of my Alaska cruises!  Friends of mine are signed up for gold panning too.. not sure about that one yet! ::chin

::singer  Hello, beautiful people!

I've made a reservation for a Friday-night dinner for my wonderful self at the Pinnacle Grill on the cruise.  But it just occurred to me ... why not place a request out to the Universe for some dinner guests?

Happy day,

Lynette   :)

Thank you, Jody.  :kiss:

Also, I recall you sharing something recently about the salmon feast excursion ... I, too, will be doing the Lodge Feast (featuring salmon as the main course) as well as the Crab Freast excursion.  So maybe we'll be on the same outings.

:allgood

I'm so looking forward to this trip with all the fellow Abers ... such fun ahead.

Hi Lynnette::wave,

What a great idea. I'm travelling solo this time and have been a bit curious about the Pinnacle grill. Could I join you..Definitely love the dining room experience (from the Caribbean cruise) it would be fun to try that also I've heard great things about it.

I'm so excited to see Alaska, I'm doing my dream excursions this trip. Whale watching with Orca/Helicopter icefield excursion with Coastal in Juneau.

Puffin/otter/whale watching trip in Sitka with the Esther G. (cruise critics has been fun to play with ideas of private venders)

Floatplane with Island wings in Ketchican.

And of course above all Playing with Abraham::tramp.

Dreams do come true.  Thanks everyone for your hints on cruising Alaska. (thanks Vicki your hints really reassured me. Look forward to meeting you)

One thing I did wonder. How dressy do you need to be for Pinnacle. With my outdoor excursions I will be heavily focused on warmth versus fashion::whistle

Hi Nan and Lynette!

David and I have eaten in the Pinnacle several times - usually at least once per cruise, and it's usually excellent. Also, the price has recently gone down, so the surcharge is $20 per person for dinner and $10 per person for lunch.

The dress code in the Pinnacle is identical to the Vista dining room. On formal nights, formal attire is required in the Pinnacle and that can be anything from a "nice dress" to a formal evening gown. For men it is a suit and tie - not necessarily a tux.  On nonformal nights, "smart casual" pretty much means anything that is not jeans or shorts, but you will find that most people "dress for dinner" - pants are fine, but a little nicer than you usual glacier climbing outfit would be appropriate.

Hope that helps! Enjoy!!

Thanks Jodi that helps alot. I am planning a couple of nicer pant suit type outfits for the dining room on nonformal nights just really not wanting to pack fancy.  All will be well I'm sure.

Thanks

Good Morning, Vicki & Bonnie!

Could you tell me some more about the $60 per day hold on the credit card? When are those charges placed on the card and when are they removed? I'm assuming they are to assure that you won't skip out on your tab.

Question: Does anybody know this? Since Liz is coming from Europe where there's 220V on her appliances .... do any of the plugs in the staterooms accept European plugs (camera charger) and voltage?

Thanks!

Susan

::singer  Happy day!

Sounds great, Nan!  I look forward to meeting you and having dinner with you.  And in regards to dress attire for the Grill, I'm going to be dressing a bit more elegant than usual, for I understand the restaurant is more formal with dinner "courses" served.

In Love and Light,

Lynette  :)

I look forward to meeting you Lynnette. Promise to be dressed appropriately:)  My idea of formal means a dress but the pantsuits are very elegant and easy maintenance.

Do you know if I need to make a reservation on line and if so is there a particular way to connect it with yours?

This is going to be an amazing cruise::boatwave excitement building and building....::grapevineNan

The credit card hold begins when you embark.  You can go to the Holland America site and do your online check-in, which will expidite your embarkation, and part of that is giving your credit card details so you don't have to stand around taking care of that when you just want to get on that gangway and onto the ship! ::thumb
There are other options, like leaving a cash advance at the front desk. These questions should all be addressed either to HAL or to Worldview travel. They will be glad to answer it all.

Ressies for Pinnacle: You can wait until you are onboard and go directly to the Pinnacle and make the reservations (or do it by phone from your cabin) OR you can prepay by going to the "gift" section at the HAL site.

As for "courses" - the dinners in the Pinnacle are the same number of courses as the Vista Dining Room.  The dress code on each particular evening is the same for the Vista and for the Pinnacle grill.

Appliances: Yes, the cabins have outlets for both types of plug.

Woweee, I am thinking of joining this fab group for the Alaskan cruise. I just talked to Lois and as I would be travelling alone I requested to share a cabin with Matthew McConaughy!  IT IS DONE!!!

heehee - anyway, is there anyone else looking for a roommate? Lois is also checking for me and I may just book my own and if I get a roommate later, that's cool.

 I will not be making my final decision until next week.  I love dolphins, whales, glaciers, climbing, boats and Lobster!!! This cruise sounds like sooo much fun, I have wanted to do an Alaskan cruise way before I met Abe.  And I think I do better in the cooler weather than the heat and humidity on some of the other trips.

Waiting to feel in perfect alignment!!!

Caroline
