Great to see the RSVPs!
I am in full planning mode. I'm surrounded by books on Italy and Spain and have been furiously shopping for the right clothes and shoes.
How's everyone else's planning going? Have you signed up for shore excursions? Mom and I are doing all our shore excursions with Holland as this is our first cruise and our first time overseas. We are trying to work out plans for touring Rome on Weds prior and Sunday after the cruise. Any suggestions from our seasoned travelers would be appreciated!!
Do we know when our Abraham workshops are yet? If anyone has uncovered that info I'd love to know. I'm sure we'll be getting info soon from Worldview-- so maybe patience is a virtue.
Mom and I attended the Sept 2006 Louisville workshop (a rare stop on the A-H bus tour!) and that' when we first heard Jerry mention this cruise. We looked at each other and said "We are going on that" Now I can't believe it's less than two months away! What an amazing manifestation. We never doubted and we never worried. And here we go!!
Keep those RSVPs coming in. And see you soon!

Kendall, count me in on the embarkation day Meet-Up. Thank you Kendall, David and Jody!
I just discovered an interesting tour/educational group. Two professors formed a non for profit educational institute in Rome. They offer travelers the opportunity to learn about the city through their courses/tours ranging from two hours to a full day. You have your very own knowledgeable professor to show you what Rome has to offer. The two Profs are:
Dr. Laura Flusche, president of idcrome - a 12 yr resident of Rome and teaches art history for the University of Dallas and DePaul University programs in Rome.
Susan Sanders, executive director, teaches for the University of Washington (Seattle) and Michigan State University Rome programs.
I don’t know either of them personally but connected with Laura Flusche through a contact at my alma mater, the University of Dallas. I inquired about the Baroque program because of the artist Lorenzo Bernini who created a wonderful sculpture of Teresa of Avila in ecstasy. I have a life long interest in this Spanish mystic and found it fascinating when Esther used similar words to Teresa’s in describing her mystical experience.
“The Baroque Reloaded” program costs $400 for half day and a 2-hour program that Dr. Flusche also mentioned, “Rock Star“costs $240. The group can range in size from 1 to 6 participants, thus sharing the expense. The “Rock Star” seminar is conducted at the Galleria Borghese and includes the work of Caravaggio and Bernini. “The Baroque Reloaded” program includes Lorenzo Bernini’s sculpture of St. Teresa.
Would anyone be interested in joining me on Sunday June 8th? For those interested (for Sunday or any other day) you can check out their website. They don’t come across as stuffy professors. Their programs and newsletters are full of humor and allusions to current popular culture. I would be glad to give you the website by PM or your e-mail address. Please explore because there is a wide variety of tours/seminars that can appeal to different interests.
I was also told about Slow Travel for good info on local hotel options. It had some great suggestions. I’m currently down for the Holiday Inn, but may change. Found a place run by nuns that is a few blocks from the center of Rome. It looks very appealing!
Isn’t this research and planning a fun way to amp up our vibration levels!!

Kendall,
The workshops never conflict with "shore time", so feel free to plan any shore excursions without worry that the workshops will overlap. Our workshops will take place most likely on "sea days".
Your enthusiasm is contagious! I'm going to start looking at the excursions too - having just recently solidified our plan to sail, David and I are sort of in a daze on this one! LOL

Jody,
Thanks. The thing I was concerned about with overlap is in Barcelona. Almost every Holland Shore Excursion is in the a.m. but we are in port late. I just didn't want to try and plan something on my own for the afternoon and then find out we have a workshop. I think you are telling me that we won't have workshops while we in port -- is that right? That would be helpful to know!
What fun to get to plan for this trip in a short time period -- talk about instant manifestation! Have fun!

That's correct! On all of the previous cruises the workshops have been held ONLY when there are NO onshore conflicts. On port days, if there is a half day workshop, it is always held before we dock or drop anchor, or at least before we are allowed to leave the ship, OR after all-aboard when we return. I'll try to obtain our workshop schedule and post it as soon as possible.

Tunisia
7:30 am Departure from the ship at the port of La Goulette
We will begin our special day by visiting the incredible site of the Punic ports and Roman ruins at Carthage, passing
by the Tophet, where human sacrifices were offered to the gods. You will see the stunning Roman Baths by the
seashore dedicated to the Roman Emperor Antonius Pius, which are the largest Roman baths ever discovered.
Carthage was founded in 800 BC by the Phoenicians and it was from here that Hannibal began his legendary
journey. Carthage was once Rome's most dangerous enemy and bitter rival but the Romans destroyed and rebuilt
Carthage in 146 BC, and it became the Roman Empire's second city after Rome.
Today, the ruins of this settlement remain scattered among the area's more modern construction,
Visit the site of the Accropolium (Byrsa Hill), which has spectacular views over the Mediterranean Sea.
For lunch we have an incredible stop planned for the group at the 5 Star El Mouradi Gammarth resort hotel located
on the sea. Our entire group will dine together on a large buffet selection of delicious local cuisine including fresh
salads, vegetables, cous cous, fresh fruit, bread, and a variety of fish and meats. Local entertainment will be
provided during lunch.
Finally, you will visit Sidi Bou Said - one of the most picturesque villages in Tunisia - famous for its Moorish
architecture of white houses with blue shutters covered in bougainvillea. A short walk uphill will bring you to the
village that sits proudly at the top of a cliff, commanding stunning views of the Gulf of Tunis. Browse in the shops
selling crafts and enjoy a mint tea at one of the cafes, or opt for free time for shopping and walking around.
3:00 pm return to the ship at the port of La Goulette. Our Abraham workshop begins at 4 pm.
Cost per person: $105 ( Adult or child)
Includes transportation to and from the pier, excellent English speaking guides, entrance into all
sites visited, and a full buffet lunch (including a ½ bottle of water) with entertainment.
* Friends or family not attending the Abraham workshops are welcome on this tour.
Please submit your registrations no later than April 30, 2008
After that deadline reservations will only be accepted based on availability.
For those passengers charging this tour to the credit card on file used for your
cruise you may easily submit your tour registration on the following website link:
http://www.ronoyer.com/tour_form
All charges are nonrefundable after reservations have been made.
Once your reservation has been processed and charged you will receive an email confirmation of
your booking. Further information will be provided in your final documents.
Actual tickets will be included in a cabin delivery envelope delivered to your stateroom with your
seminar badge.
For any passengers who would like to send a check or use a different credit card than what was
used for the cruise please fax or mail in the following form:

Kalena,
On the Tunisia day a special excursion has been planned for our group. Scroll up this thread - the full info was posted by Simon. Also you should have received this with your invoice/comfirmation from WorldView. If you didn't, PM me and I'll email it to you.
Although all-aboard will apparently be at 5:30 on that day, the Abe seminar does begin at 4, but as you can see, you can take part in this special day planned just for the Abers, which gets us back to the ship in plenty of time to attend the seminar. (we return at 3)
Since the Med. is such a port-intensive destination, this is what they worked out for us.

Jody for the information, and yes I recieved the invoice from worldview. I just was confused because I believe this is the first time that the seminar starts while we are still on port, but I think is a great idea that they have planned this special excursion and I will definitely signed up for it

Laughing so hard this morning!!
Hi Cruise friends, I just can't resist posting this really funny (IMO) thing...
I sometimes go over to one of the general cruise forums, and today my intention was to read about some of the ports we'll be visiting next month.. but I got sidetracked by somebody's review of the Noordam... (by the way I love the Noordam! David and I sailed her on the Alaska cruise last summer!)...
And one of the replies to the Noordam review was a woman saying that during the embarkation process she found out that Holland America had her listed as a man, and the person checking her in tried everything to change it in the computer, but that it came down to her agreeing to appear on the ship's manifest as a man, or not sail. So.. of course she said - I'll go through the cruise as a man
So another poster (an actual man) had this to say:
You know, I went through the cruise as a man as well... It wasn't that bad.- You get to go through the islands without having to stop and ask for directions.
- Your clothes don't have to match.
- You get control of the cabin remote control.
- You get to be right all the time.
What's the problem?
I know, I know.. not very Abe-ish, but it struck me as hilarious.

Hallo Jody, I am still laughing. And then I got to think: What if my daughter Marbella ( Andrea) is registered as MAN ? In Italian Andrea is a male name !
Then she will always be right on the ship??? ...... But she is anyway
