Taking Her “Beautiful Body” Score Too Soon
This Abraham-Hicks dialogue was at San Francisco, California on the weekend of February the 26th and 27th of 1994.
GUEST: I want to talk about step three. I want to have a beautiful body.
ABRAHAM: Why?
GUEST: Oh, I’ve been there before. I love how it feels. I love the way my body moves. I love being able to cross my legs, way over. I love the movement, I love how beautiful it looks. I love the confidence that I feel, the way clothes feel on me. And I love flowing that Energy, and I can lay in bed and think about it and picture how I’ve looked before and feel my clothes falling off me and all that kind of stuff, and I love it. Here’s the problem. I get up and I look in the mirror and I crash back into this sort of self loathing, like I haven’t done it right.
ABRAHAM: Well, you see, all that’s happening is that you are just taking score too soon.
GUEST: Well, this has been a year I’ve been vibrating.
ABRAHAM: Well, but wait just a little bit about this. If 51% of the time, you are feeling the way you felt just now as you were describing this, and 49% of the time, you are loathing yourself as you look in the mirror, you’re still inching forward. But you’re right, it’s not very fast.
GUEST: It’s slow, yeah. And I have inched, I have.
ABRAHAM: But if you can get it up there where 60% of the time, when the subject of my body comes forth — you’re feeling exhilaration and only 40% of the time, are you feeling disappointed — now you’re really rolling, now progress is evident, you see. What you’re wanting to do is just stay at it a little bit and tip the balance of the scales a little bit more in terms of the way you feel.
GUEST: So, hang cloth over the mirror or something? I mean, the problem is, you know, the reality of this life is it’s hard not to get in front of the mirror.
ABRAHAM: And you have just spoken so perfectly the thing that holds most people up. What you are saying to us is, “How can I feel something that isn’t?” It’s like someone saying, “Abraham, how can I feel prosperous when my checks are bouncing?” “How can I feel well when they tell me I have cancer?” And we say, therein lies your work. You have to come to understand that your work is finding the feeling place. That is your work. Your work is to find the feeling place. Your work is to find the feeling place of what you want, more often than the feeling place of what-is or what you don’t want.
Let us tell you what’s happening here. We watch you. Even though we know that only the Energy of well-being is offered toward your planet. We stand back far enough, we can see it. Only well-being is offered. You have a handful of words that describe well-being, physical well-being, you say healthy, you say well, you say vital. You have hundreds of thousands of journals written to describe lack of it. You see what we’re getting at? So all that’s happened is, you have patterns of thought that are not in harmony with your wanting.
When Jerry and Esther walk, each day that they’re in Texas, they walk from where they are currently living to the new house that they are building. And the other day, Jerry said to Esther, “Look at this!” And they turned around and looked, and there was a very evident trail going off through the bushes, that only the two of them have been on, and they laughed that in such a short time they had carved a trail right through those bushes. Now, each day when they leave the roadway they don’t make a new path. They follow the same path of least resistance. In other words, it’s a habit path, it’s an easier path, it’s a logical path. It’s the path they always walk on. Well, you have paths in your mind like that, too. You learned them from those who taught you words. And so, as you think a word like “money” there’s a path that you almost always go down. As you think about “my body”, there’s a path that you almost always go down. As you think about “worthiness” or “physicalness”, there are these paths that you almost always go down. And now what you are wanting to do — with the help of your Guidance System — is to discover whether the path that you usually naturally habitually step onto is really the path that’s going to take you to where you want to be. And you can always feel by the way you’re feeling, what your vibrational path is.
GUEST: That’s perfect, and that kind of is the other half of the question, because it still is scary whether I can believe the Guidance System. In this case, this is the old path: “The only way that you can be thin is to eat carrots,” you know, “and suffer,” is basically kind of the way it feels, but that’s the only way I’ve ever done it. And of course it doesn’t work. So tell me, Abraham, to me, I can have a beautiful body without the suffering?
ABRAHAM: You can have a beautiful body — and it cannot come to you through suffering.
GUEST: Me, personally? I’ve heard you say that, but I need to take it in, you know, that it’s the truth for me, because we’re laughing, but it’s easy to hear your words and say, “Yes I can hear the truth in that for the Universe,” and it’s sometimes difficult to say, “But are they really talking to me?” Because, you know, I have a personal fitness trainer, who I love dearly, who says to me, “Don’t you get it?”
ABRAHAM: Who’s been walking on a different path. Who has vibrationally achieved different mental habits. But let us give you something, here, because we really want you to hear this as much as you want to hear this.
All things come by vibrational allowing. There’s no such thing as Law of Assertion, so your trainer, or Abraham, or no one, can assert into your experience what you want. In other words, we know that you would like there to be different conditions that you could respond to, but what we’re wanting you to understand and to discover is the bliss on conjuring an image and then watching the physical manifestation adhere to the conjured image.
So what we’re wanting you to do is, at the end of each day, just ask yourself one question, right before you drift off to sleep: “Today, relative to this subject of my body,” which may have come up 100 times or may have only come up one or two times. Doesn’t matter. “Today, relative to this subject of my body, did I achieve more vibrational harmony with what I want, or did I achieve more vibrational harmony with the lack of it? And when you ask that question, the answer will be very clear to you.
Now we want to remind you, it may not have been that big a part of your day, or it may have been a very big part of your day, depending upon what conditions you attracted. But whether it was a big part or a little part, when you ask the question — you will have an immediate knowing response. “I felt exhilarated when I thought about it” or “I was bummed out most of the day.” “I felt pretty today, I felt ugly today, I was full of Energy today, I felt rotten today.” In other words, you know, relative to that subject, what your vibrational harmony was, and whichever it was, whichever it was, whichever it was, is your evidence that the Universe does not make exceptions for anybody. In other words, yes, you, too!
Have fun with all of this. Now, here is the most important part, and you touched on it very clearly just a moment ago. What happens is, as you are moving through your day, most of you are still having the same feeling responses about your body that you learned way back when. What we mean by that is, almost from the beginning you were thrust into an environment of comparison, cataloging, pigeonholing. Your parents did it, the society did it, you were measured and weighed, and the number of hairs on your head were counted. And as you began your process of school, you were pigeonholed and compared. So, almost all of you learned the opposite of appreciation of self.
Almost all of you, right from the beginning, relative to self, were taught that you are inappropriate beings, here to prove worthiness to something that moves around so much you can’t even really figure out what the rules are — because everybody has a different interpretation of what’s right and what’s wrong. So, we could put it very simply: The only thing that has been getting in your way, the only thing that has been holding you up, the only thing that has been troubling any of you, is one thing: you have not been appreciating you. You’ve been looking at you, seeing lack and vibrationally closing down the Energy that allows you to get what you want. That has been it.
Can a person who doesn’t appreciate self suddenly start appreciating self? We don’t think so. We see, every time you try, you fall back into these same old ruts. Every time you try to get outside of yourself to look at yourself, what you see is the same thing you’ve sort of trained yourself to see. That’s why you’ve said and you have heard others say, “I can’t see myself as others see me.”
Well, you do see yourself as some others see you. In other words, everybody sees you a little differently depending on where they’re vibrating. A connected one thinks you’re magnificent. A not connected one doesn’t think you’re so magnificent — but it doesn’t have anything to do with you. It has to do with where they’re vibrating as they are perceiving you.
So here is a process. Some say it is a trick that works. It’s not a trick. It’s a utilization of the Laws of the Universe. Remember that your goal is to find an object of attention that makes you feel good while you find it. Well, some objects are easier than others, aren’t they? Esther looks at her little cat, and she cannot feel other than appreciation for this pure positive Energy beast. You look at someone misbehaving, and it’s less easy to find appreciation. So what you are wanting to do is look for objects of attention to which you can flow an Energy of appreciation. Now, here’s the reason that this is sneaky. By choosing an object of attention that causes pure positive Energy to flow through you, guess what happens to the vessel through which the pure positive Energy is flowing? You thrive. When you try to look back at yourself most of you shut down, because you already have negative thoughts about self that are hard for you to overcome. So what we would encourage you to do, for about 30 days, is get your eye off of you and get yourself on a blitz of appreciation. Make a decision that you are going to do as much appreciating in any day as you have physical time and Energy to do.
GUEST: About any subject?
ABRAHAM: About any subject. “I’m appreciating this room. It is so nice that there is a room that we can rent where we can talk about weird things and not be bothered by anybody that is outside. I appreciate the roadways that bring me here, I appreciate the chair that I sit upon, I appreciate the microphone that records our voices so that we can listen to them later.” In other words, there are so many things for you to appreciate. “I appreciate the restaurant that will prepare my food and the people that are willing to co-create within it to make the food so easily accessible to me. I appreciate the groceries that are in the grocery stores and the clothes that are in the department stores.” When you get on this jag of appreciation, you realize that there are endless objects of attention to which you feel natural appreciation. And as you start finding these objects that draw through you this pure positive Energy, you’re going to feel radiantly wonderful — and in time you will be able to then turn that funnel, or vortex, back at yourself. But we would encourage you to practice just getting it flowing for a while, first.
The cells of your body, there are millions of them, and each one of them knows its work. These cells are like little beings, too, you know. Each of them has a brain, just like you have a brain. The cells of your body each actually know their work in your body better than most of you know your work here in this world. These cells have been pre-paved, preplanned, pre-thought. They know what they are doing. So the cells ask, and Nonphysical Energy answers. The cells ask, and Nonphysical Energy answers — and this is Life Force, you see. When you are appreciating — as the cells are asking and Nonphysical is answering — there is no resistance within you, so the cells are not hindered in any way, and you thrive. If you’re blaming or condemning or finding fault, in other words, if you feel any negative emotion like fear or guilt or loneliness or anger, it doesn’t matter what you call it, those emotions are evidence of your looking at lack. And the negative emotion that you feel is evidence of the resistance you’re causing by your attention to lack. And that resistance is getting in the way of the cells and the Nonphysical doing their work. So you are not thriving, your body cannot metabolize in the way that it wants to. The cells bind up, the blood doesn’t flow as well, the oxygen doesn’t flow as well, you see. So you say from your place of lack, “Oh, I’m not getting what I want. I guess I will deprive myself of food. I will force my body into responding the way that I want.” So you deprive and get more lackful, and the more lackful you get the more Energy resistance there is, and the more resistance there is, then the less likely you are to get what you want. You see what we are getting at?
You will find what you want, in joy. But you must understand: Esther said, “Abraham, how can beings that are lackful win medals?” And we said, because they’re playing on a playing field with others who are lackful. But you must ask yourself, what is the trophy? Is it the medal or is it the joy?
If you will make one very clear decision, and that is, “What I’m looking for is joy,” and let that be that which is your dominant quest, or desire, then all of the other things that are important to you will fall into perfect alignment with that. But until you choose that, you cannot have the help of the Nonphysical Energy, and everything will be harder.
Here is a simple rule of thumb. Anytime you take action from a negative feeling place, the action is counterproductive, because there’s not enough action in the moment to compensate for the way you’ve been flowing Energy.
The other day, something happened, something that Tracy had done upset Esther a little bit, and so, as Esther saw it, from this negative feeling place, she went right out to talk to Tracy about it, which, of course, brought negative emotion from Tracy, and the whole thing erupted way out of proportion. Esther said to Tracy, laughing in the middle of all of this, “I see what I’ve done. I’ve found a negative feeling place, and I’ve come right to you in the middle of it and swept you right up in it.” Esther said, “From now on, I will find my positive feeling place before I take action.” And Tracy began to laugh and she said, “And then I did the same thing. I responded before I found my positive feeling place.” There is not enough action in the world to compensate for that blast of negative Energy that is flowing, you see.
I love this article! Everytime I want to jump into action by depriving myself of food and "banging" my body into place, I'll read this article. Ahhhhhhhh instant relief!! Relax, it is done, it is done, it is done.

Norelle, I cannot thank you enough for posting this.
Being a student of Abraham's for almost a year and a half, I do know this, but for some reason, sometimes I forget - haha!! This is why I so love and appreciate this forum. I am constantly being reminded of what I know deep down inside and I am more and more, remembering who I really am.
Appreciation is truly the key to allowing everything we desire into our lives. Today I will make it a point to find more things to appreciate. I will find more things to appreciate than I will find to complain about.

This forum really helps me to do just that...all of you help me to do that too! Its great to find a place that is so global and so accesible(even at work!!!) that affirms positive energy, positive living, joy and appreciation! Its my "escape" INTO the reality I am headed towards when ever I feel a disconnect happening....

I am new to this forum, and have been completely hooked since I first discovered it a couple of weeks ago. I have also read "Ask and It Is Given" over the past couple of weeks, and this is the one issue I have been struggling with the most! ---specifically the mirror issue! ;p
I was feeling depressed and discouraged this evening, and had just polished off a yummy chocolate bar, when I decided to read this forum in an effort to move up my Emotional Guidance System. I like to play a game by quick-reading the post headings, and clicking on the one that stands out for me. Tonight, your post was like a neon sign!!! 
I am SOOOOOO GLAD and SOOOOO GRATEFUL that you posted this, and that I was allowing Source enough to see it. It was the answer to my prayers!! I now feel comforted, appreciative, hopeful, excited, grateful, lucky, and motivated to stay the course, continue moving up my EGS, sitting back and allowing Source to work through me, and preparing for my shopping spree of new SMALLER SIZED clothes!!

Thank you for this post! This is a wonderful condensed version of Abraham's teachings, and I (still!) so often get caught up in silly things and forget that it doesn't matter WHAT I feel good about, just that I feel good.

This morning I was listening to that Cd, where the woman asked why is she gaining weight now when she lets herself eat anything she wants. I listened very carefully and nowhere in that recording Abraham says, that if you overeat - you loose weight. What they are saying is, that she did adjust her behavior(action)to eating anything she wants, but she did not adjust her allowing-her being friends with food. Abraham says, that when you allign with your source in food area, your behavior will change itself. Just like circumstances change, after we allign. I am so happy to get that, because that part always seemed like contradiction to me.
