Yes, everyone, this is a continuation of my Mexico Cruise notes. Let's hope I get them all posted before the Caribbean Cruise!!

This is about LICKING THE ICE CREAM CONE.

Abraham went on a really wonderful rampage about this one. I was so busy laughing and loving it that I didn't write a lot of notes on this, so I'm telling it from my memory. I think it illustrates something really important and gives great food (hey, punny!) for thought and discussion, so here goes.

So you are eating your ice cream cone. And it's delicious. Now... you could just eat the ice cream cone, and revel in its delicious taste, and not even think of asking anyone else to taste it. Not because you are selfish, but because you ARE SELFish!

People who merrily lick their cones not asking anyone else to lick them just don't CARE whether YOU think their ice cream cone is delicious. What YOU think about their ice cream cone is none of their business!

Someone else could be eating an ice cream cone... and it's delicious...
But.. they ask you to take a lick, saying "this is delicious, right? Isn't this delicious?" And they are asking for you to VALIDATE their assessment of the taste of the ice cream!! They can't REALLY enjoy the cone until others have said that it is, indeed, just as they suspected, DELICIOUS!!

And then there are even people who have ONE HUNDRED others lick the cone for them!! How many people have to affirm that your ice cream is delicious before you can truly enjoy it???

Abraham says, this makes no sense!! Even if 100 people lick your cone and say it tastes like manure, SO WHAT!!!????? And if YOU think your cone tastes like manure, and you give it to 100 people to try and they all think it's delicious, SO WHAT???!!! Trust your own manure-detector taste buds!:exactly:
What matters is that YOU enjoy your ice cream cone!!! What matters is what YOU THINK AND FEEL!!!

I loved this. What a great moment in Abraham humor it was. Life is supposed to be fun, and people, in an Abe seminar in the Vista Lounge, it is SO GOOD.::grapevine

So, I'm going out for some Pralines and Cream, and no you can't have a lick. Okay, you can. But I don't care whether you think it's delicious or NOT!

Dear Jody,

::LOL This is sooo perfect.  You should know that I have distinct memories of my father chasing me around the kitchen with a forkful of cake insisting that I taste it because it was sooo delicious.

Dear Jody

Your notes are pure delight - how wonderful, funnly and an incredible "reporter" you are.

Have fun and enjoy your cone, as you always do.

Much love!

This is so cool, Jody!  Thanks for sharing! ::hugging

I see how it also fits with no need to push for or against, either.  If someone sees me enjoying my ice cream cone, hey!  They just might be interested in what I'm having......or not.....but it makes no difference as long as I'm enjoying it! ::cool

As always, Jody, thanks for the marvelous notes (and insights). They are wonderful, and you are deeply appreciated!

I find it facinating that Abraham keeps coming up with new ways to explain things - the same things often - over and over. And what is even more interesting is that they need to keep explaining. You'd think we'd get it.

::LOL

The analogy reminds me of a great "ice cream" joke, but this is perhaps not the place for it (language).

Thanks again. Looking for more.

Love and Light,

Richard

I GET This!!!  No one else's assessment matters but MINE!!  That includes what others think of my ideas, my body, my taste in clothes, etc.

Yes!!!!!!   Methinks the forum needs a lightbulb emoticon!!

Funny how I am just today licking a wonderful, HUGE ice cream cone in the most incredible flavour and I find myself looking around to see if it is OKAY for me to be having it and enjoying it this much. Sheesh.

OF COURSE IT IS!

Thanks, Jody.

I love this!

It reminds me of junior high, when one of the boys would smell something really disgusting, he would inevitably go around to all of the others, saying, "Here, smell this!  It's really gross!"  and they would!  Now, why would you want to smell something that you know smells awful?  I never understood that!

Pumpkin,

Of course you don't understand it......

shells and snails, puppy dog tails and especially stinky smells,

that's what little boys are made of!

(even boys in Jr High) ::LOL

Lots of love::hearts and many hugs ::hugging(all of which smell great!)

Um... That's OK.  No thanks.

Jody, thanks for sharing this brilliant brilliant brilliant analogy. I was thinking about this very subject before I read your post. I'd been thinking of it in terms of, "Okay, I can stay out of his pie, but WHY CAN'T HE LIKE MY PIE BETTER?"

::LOL

Abe's ice cream cone analogy really clarified things for me. I might cut up a pie and share it, but my ice cream cone is just for me! No more trying to sneak some of my pie onto somebody else's plate.

Hey Aber crew,

I really having been savoring this new ice cream cone analogy...all day...so easy to relate to and such a subtle but important difference then the pie analogy where this one relates to not needing anyone else to appreciate or validate or understand what pleases me to enjoy it myself....very freeing....it just gets better and better doesn't it folks?

enjoying my favorite flavor of ice cream cone,
RICHann

When I first started reading this, I got all excited because I thought all the wonderful people from a couple of years ago were back posting on the forum...but anyway, it's an excellent image, that cone-licking!
